  • Kolkata: BJP will undertake restoration of Murshidabad's damaged temples on April 30, the day of Akshay Tritiya, state leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari said on Monday. The Jagannath Dham in Digha would also be inaugurated on that day.

Adhikari claimed a total of nine temples were vandalised and said they would not accept any financial assistance from state govt. "I reiterate that all expenses will be borne by Hindus themselves. Hindus of Murshidabad cannot be deprived of their right to worship," he said.

State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar is also scheduled to visit the damaged temples in Murshidabad on Wednesday.

Trinamool, however, raised questions on BJP's intent. "They claim to be Sanatanis and try to portray themselves as flag-bearers of Hindutva. It is clear they want to disrupt the consecration programme at Digha. A true Hindu would never do that," party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said.

BJP's former national vice-president Dilip Ghosh said while people will visit the Jagannath temple, they would also remember how TMC opposed the consecration ceremony at Ayodhya. "If there is a temple, everyone, including us, will go there to worship. This temple won't fetch any vote for Trinamool," he said.
