• RG Kar parents seek SIM probe
    Times of India | 29 April 2025
  • Kolkata: Parents of the RG Kar victim on Monday raised questions about the SIM card of the PGT doctor's phone, which had stayed active for three months after her death, and her WhatsApp was accessed through it. Also on Monday, the CBI submitted a status report on the progress of the investigation in the court.

The parents submitted the petition in a sealed envelope with the ADJM Sealdah Court. According to the victim's father, they were alerted of the phone being active when their daughter's profile suddenly quit a WhatsApp group.

"We have shared a screenshot of the WhatsApp chat from that number. The phone of the victim was accessed even after three months. Her phone was seized, and it was part of the investigation. If it is part of the investigation, then why is the WhatsApp chat being altered? We believe that there has been manipulation of the WhatsApp, and we submitted that screenshot in court," said Amartya De, the lawyer appearing for the victim's parents.

"We cannot meet any of the investigating officers of the agency. We don't have any update from them. There is no way we could inform the CBI. So we decided to update the court," said the father.

The CBI's counsel, Partha Sarathi Datta, said the investigation is ongoing. He added that so far, 36 testimonies of witnesses have been recorded. The CBI has also collected 200 photos, videos, and 32 CCTV footages related to the incident. They have also received 100 complaint letters.

When asked about the contents, De claimed that the petition contained a synopsis with questions and answers not covered in the charge sheet. The next date for the CBI to submit a status report is set for June 10.
