12 Kolkata: State leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari met the father of Havildar Jhantu Ali Sheikh at a programme in Nadia's Tehatta on Tuesday.
Adhikari, who said he was unable to meet the family due to the sudden developments in Murshidabad, mentioned that local BJP functionaries had met the family.

"In the past six years, four jawans from Nadia gave up their lives to protect our motherland. We paid homage to each one of them. I met Jhantu Ali Sheikh's father and promised to stand by the family," Adhikari said at a programme organised by residents of Tehatta.
"CM Mamata Banerjee also promised to stand by Jhantu's family and extended help to them. I welcome her gesture. However, I hope she extends a helping hand to each of the martyr families," he added.
Trinamool had been critical of the absence of BJP netas at Sheikh's residence after he was killed. When the jawan's body was brought to his Patharghata residence, TMC and CPM functionaries were present.
"I was at Dhuliyan and Shamsherganj at that time and could not remain present. I am grateful to the people of Tehatta for inviting me to this programme to pay homage to our son of the soil," Adhikari said.
