  • Kolkata: A 35-year-old helmetless motorcyclist, Amar Dey, died in an accident on Maa flyover on Wednesday morning.

Dey, a resident of Ramkrishna Pally, was travelling from Park Circus towards Science City around 5 am when he lost control of his motorcycle and hit the median divider. He was thrown off his vehicle, which was found several metres away from the crash site.

Locals alleged that Dey's body remained on the road— on top of bridge no 4— for over 30 mins before authorities arrived. Cops denied there was a 30-minute gap between the accident and the time help arrived. However, they admitted that while the PCR van reached within minutes, it took some time for the ambulance to reach the spot.

Police officers are reviewing surveillance footage from the area and have launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident. "Speed restrictions and stricter enforcement of helmet laws are crucial to preventing such accidents," said Rajesh Kumar, a local traffic safety consultant.
