  • Memari: Two people were killed after an SUV collided with a rice-loaded van at the NH 19-GT Road junction near Rasulpur village in East Burdwan's Memari on Saturday morning. The rice-loaded engine van was coming from the Burdwan side, and the SUV from Rasulpur.

    On receiving this information, Two injured men — Suman Das of Ahmadpur and Abhijit Aich of Chinsura — were taken to the hospital where they were declared brought dead. The bodies have been sent for postmortem.

    OC Memari and a RT van rushed to the spot and rescued two people using a crane. Both injured individuals were shifted to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, where the medical officer declared them brought dead.

    According to the police, the deceased were identified as Suman Das, 35, of Harisabha, Ahmadpur in East Burdwan district, and Abhijit Aich, 33, of Keotalat Bagan, Chinsura, Hooghly district. Both bodies were sent for post-mortem at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, and the deceased's family members were informed. The front side of the SUV was badly damaged, and both vehicles were detained. Traffic movement was normalised
