Kolkata: Bengal govt has approved the establishment of two new Additional Regional Transport Offices (ARTO) — one at Canning in South 24 Parganas and the other at Buniadpur under Gangarampur Sub-Division in South Dinajpur.
The decision, approved by the state cabinet on April 23, aims at strengthening regional transport administration and improving public access to transport-related services in these growing subdivisions.

The ARTO office at Canning will be located on the sub-divisional office premises and cater to the entire sub-division. The Buniadpur ARTO will function from the SDO office at Gangarampur and serve the Gangarampur sub-division, said the order issued by transport secretary Saumitra Mohan.
Each office will be staffed with one additional regional transport officer, two motor vehicles inspectors (technical) and two motor vehicles inspectors (non-technical).
Transport officials said the move is part of govt's larger strategy to decentralise essential public services and ensure more efficient delivery in semi-urban and rural areas.
