Howrah: The Howrah Municipal Corporation has formed an investigative panel to evaluate the status of rooftop restaurants, bars, dining establishments and hotels in Howrah, HMC chairperson Sujoy Chakraborty announced on Sunday.
Speaking to TOI, Chakraborty said the panel comprises engineers from buildings and electricity departments. According to a member of the corporation, the municipal area has 167 hotels, restaurants, bars and cafes, with 21 rooftop establishments amongst them. Several unregistered eating establishments also operate in the area.

Chakraborty said the engineering team will inspect spatial arrangements, entry-exit points, corridors, elevators, staircases and electrical installations. Any violation or unauthorised structure will face demolition and legal proceedings. The panel is expected to submit its findings within 12 days, with a copy forwarded to the urban development department.
