Sikkim to get new airport to boost tourism: Union minister Ramdas Athawale

GANGTOK: Union minister Ramdas Athawale announced that a new airport would likely be constructed in Sikkim to enhance tourism prospects. During a press briefing on Sunday, he emphasised the central government's dedication towards the state's comprehensive development.
He acknowledged that under chief minister Prem Singh Tamang's guidance, Sikkim has achieved notable success in its tourism initiatives.

Athawale, who holds the position of Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, is conducting a two-day visit to the state.
He highlighted that the entire Northeast region has witnessed substantial development under PM Narendra Modi's leadership.
The state's BJP unit has been advocating for the establishment of an all-weather international airport in Sikkim to strengthen tourism.
The existing Pakyong airport frequently experiences visibility challenges, resulting in service interruptions that can last for months.
