  • Kolkata: The widows of Jafrabad murder victims — Haragobindo Das and his son Chandan — approached Calcutta High Court on Monday seeking an "impartial investigation" by CBI or any other central agency into their murders.

Parul Das, 60, and Pinky Das, 35, have also alleged that 40 male officers of the Bidhannagar East Police Station stormed into their temporary shelter in Bidhannagar at 10am on Sunday. They sought disciplinary action against the cops and protection through a "neutral mechanism". Their lawyer, Moyukh Mukherjee, sought leave on Monday to file the case, which Justice Tirthankar Ghosh granted and asked him to mention it on Tuesday.

West Bengal Police, however, refuted the family's accusations, and posted on X: "The fact is that last night, the younger son of the family filed a written complaint at Shamserganj Police Station that the wives of the deceased were taken away from their home by a man in a car the previous evening. The complaint further states that the family suspects that the two women have been kidnapped as they did not return home for more than 24 hours."

Bengal opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari told reporters, "All Hindu families support the stance of the family members of Haragobindo Das and Chandan Das. They were killed with knives used to slaughter animals. The wives of Haragobindo and Chandan have moved court demanding a CBI probe into the incident after they were harassed by police on Sunday. His son has said that he was forced to lodge a complaint regarding the kidnapping of his mother and sister-in-law."
