Kolkata: A road rage incident ended in assault when an auto driver allegedly attacked a motorist in Santoshpur around 9 pm on April 30.
Complainant Snehasish Debnath from Purba Putiary said the auto driver overtook him recklessly at the Jora Bridge signal after running through a red light. When Debnath tried to confront the driver after chasing him for a distance, the auto driver assaulted him, pushing him in the chest, attempting to strangle him, and punching him in the abdomen. The incident occurred in front of multiple witnesses who attempted to intervene, the complaint stated. "The auto operator also misbehaved with traffic cops and verbally abused them," Debnath said.

"We are taking this complaint very seriously," said an officer.
Local auto unions have distanced themselves from the incident. "We condemn any violence by our members," an operator said.
