• 3 city schools to host civil defence drills

  • 12 Kolkata: Three prominent schools in the city, La Martiniere for Boys and Girls and DPS Ruby Park, will hold drills following an instruction from the Civil Defence. At La Martiniere, the drills will be held in afternoon involving schoolkids. This exercise is essentially to practice procedures that could be required in a war-like situation. La Martiniere Schools head, Supriyo Dhar, said, "The drill was arranged based on the instruction received from the Govt of India. We have separate NCC wings which were asked to make the required arrangements for it."It will primarily include fire and evacuation drills. These are intended to assess the effectiveness of the air warning system, based on which civilians, students will be trained to protect themselves from attacks. They will be taught techniques for early camouflaging of vital plants or installations. A major portion of this drill will focus on the preparedness of evacuation plans, firefighting, rescue operations, etc.Delhi Public School Ruby Park will also conduct a drill on school premises in two phases. While the first phase will be held in the morning, the second one will take place at noon. The first phase will be a practice drill before the full-fledged one.
