12 Kolkata/Kharagpur: Days after he went to the Jagannath temple in Digha at the invitation of CM Mamata Banerjee, former Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh's absence at the state party unit's organisational meeting on Tuesday raised brows. Ghosh, who is a core committee member of Bengal BJP, is, however, likely to attend a meeting on Wednesday. On Tuesday morning, an organisational meeting was called at BJP's Salt Lake office in the presence of Bengal minders Amit Malviya and Mangal Pandey. Apart from state general secretaries and MPs, several lawmakers were invited. Invitees also included former ministers like Debasree Roy, Nisith Pramanik and Subhas Sarkar. Former BJP state president Rahul Sinha was also in attendance.Speaking to reporters in Kharagpur, Ghosh said: "I am not on any committee now. I am a part of only the core committee. Meetings are held of the core committee and I am invited there. I do whatever the committee asks me to do."Earlier, on multiple occasions, Ghosh had expressed disappointment at his absence from key Bengal BJP meetings and even announced plans to retire from active politics. A few months ago, state leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari tried to break the ice by inviting the BJP senior to his assembly chamber on his birthday.A BJP neta said: "There are different categories of meetings and it is not necessary that every senior is asked to attend them. We discussed strategies related to the party's growth in the days to come. Ghosh has been invited to a meeting on Wednesday and is likely to attend." According to sources, the formation of district-level committees was also discussed at the meeting.Ghosh, however, did not want to comment much on the issue, and said he was active during the membership drive. "When there was an agitation in Murshidabad, the party asked me to be there. I held rallies in Jangipur. It is the party that has to decide on the nature of work they want me to perform," he said.Recently, Ghosh faced criticism after attending the Digha Jagannath temple consecration event and meeting the CM there. Several in the party questioned the "motive" behind his visit. The former BJP national vice-president was, in turn, critical of a section of BJP politicians who had defected from Trinamool. Ghosh also came under attack from some of his colleagues after deciding to get married.Kolkata/Kharagpur: Days after he went to the Jagannath temple in Digha at the invitation of CM Mamata Banerjee, former Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh's absence at the state party unit's organisational meeting on Tuesday raised brows.
