  • 12 Kolkata: To minimise roadside parking and facilitate the easy movement of fire tenders in Sector V during emergencies, the Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA) has planned to set up its second multi-storey parking plaza in the IT hub. This new facility is being planned to accommodate more than 700 cars and is expected to be set up and made functional by the end of next year.Presently, there is an eight-storey parking plaza on plot AQ 11, close to the Sector V ring road, set up in 2021, which now accommodates about 600 cars and two-wheelers. The second multi-storey parking plaza has been planned on about one acre or 32 cottahs of land close to Philips More. You Can Also Check: Kolkata AQI | Weather in Kolkata | Bank Holidays in Kolkata | Public Holidays in KolkataOfficials said that while conducting the fire safety and compliance inspection of the buildings in Sector V, a detailed analysis of existing roads in the area was done. This included an evaluation of encroachments and hindrances that might affect the movement of fire tenders and fire ladders in case of an emergency, which could impact rescue operations."The plan is to minimise roadside parking by developing parking arrangements in the form of multi-storey parking plazas for the easy movement of fire tenders as required during emergency situations. Often, it is seen that fire tenders find it difficult to enter lanes that are further narrowed by car parks on the sides. The plan is to set up another parking plaza that could accommodate about 700 cars. Tender documents are being prepared and will be floated very soon," said an NDITA official.Officials also saidthat, in addition to accommodating cars and two-wheelers, the plan is to rehabilitate a considerable number of hawkers on the ground floor of the complex once it is constructed. Some hawkers have already been rehabilitated on the ground floor of the existing parking plaza.
