Met predicts hot, humid conditions in Kol from Thurs

Kolkata: Brace for gruelling heat and humid days ahead as another hot spell is predicted from Thursday. Kolkata is, however, likely to escape a heatwave though Met issued a warning for some western districts of Bengal between Thursday and Friday.Light showers and scattered rain have kept the mercury in check over the past few days. The city received a light drizzle even on Tuesday evening. With the chances of rain diminishing in the city for now, the temperature is expected to surge above the normal mark by Thursday. According to IMD, along with a favourable wind pattern and moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal, thunderstorm activity is likely over the districts of West Bengal until Wednesday. "Thereafter, a change in wind pattern is likely to occur. Consequently, heatwave conditions might occur over some districts of South Bengal from Thursday," said aweather bulletin from IMD.On Tuesday, at 34.5° C, the maximum temperature was 1.2 notches below normal, while the minimum at 27.7°C was about a degree higher than normal. Heatwave conditions have been issued for a few places over West Burdwan, Birbhum, Purulia, and Bankura districts, where the mercury is likely to shoot up beyond 40 degrees. For the rest of the south Bengal districts, it will be hot and humid.
