  • 12 Kolkata: In one of the world's biggest renewable energy contracts, Coal India (CIL) looks all set to supply around 4,500 MW of carbon-free energy, in a phased manner, to the upcoming green ammonia facilities of AM Green Ammonia (India). According to CIL, this would be through a combination of solar and wind energy. The initiative aligns with India's goal of achieving a cleaner energy mix and transitioning towards net-zero.A formal non-binding MoU for the long-term supply and sourcing of renewable energy was inked on May 7 between the two entities. While the solar power supply would be to the tune of 2,500 MW to 3,000 MW, wind is expected to account for between 1,500 MW and 2,000 MW. The project would have an estimated outlay of around Rs 25,000 crore. Potential sites for wind projects will be explored in the southern parts of the country, while sites in Gujarat or Rajasthan may be selected for solar plants.AM Green will integrate two renewable sources supplied by CIL with pumped hydro storage."While coal remains the mainstay in meeting India's expanding energy needs, our plans include a proactive role in building a greener, more sustainable future. This is in consonance with our commitment to becoming the country's integrated energy provider," said CIL chairman PM Prasad.
