Kolkata: A state task force, formed to monitor commodity prices, inspected major wholesale hubs on Saturday. The team visited Koley Market, Sealdah fish market and Baithakkhana egg market, and expressed satisfaction over the stable pricing and smooth functioning of the supply chain.Following a directive from CM Mamata Banerjee, the task force stressed that hoarding or any attempt at artificially hiking prices would not be tolerated.In meetings with secretaries and presidents of market committees, the task force reiterated the govt's firm stance. "There will be strict enforcement action if any market attempts to tweak prices," a member of the team warned.The team reviewed both perishable and non-perishable goods and found no significant hike in wholesale prices. "We received some reports of price spikes at the retail level, which we plan to verify," a member added.The task force will visit retail markets across the city on Monday.
