Kolkata: NKDA has served five more rooftop restaurants in New Town stop-operation notices, bringing the total number of such establishments to 10. Last week, NKDA served stop-operation notices on five rooftop restaurants in New Town for "grave anomalies" in fire safety and compliance measures."Five more errant rooftop restaurants have been served stop-operation notices," said an official.The authorities have started examining fire-safety and compliance measures followed by ceremony halls across the township. Nine buildings, mostly in New Town Action Area I, have been found to be illegally operating as ceremony houses. "The nine buildings, some of them three- to four-storey structures, were set up as residential houses. But the owners are now partially or fully utilising them as ceremony halls, without procuring any permission. The owners of the nine buildings will be served notices this week," said an official.The officials are also checking if legal banquet halls were adhering to fire-safety norms. "Officials from three to four departments are conducting field inspections. Those found violating norms or if any anomaly is spotted at any of the establishments, stop-operation notices will be issued," said an official.NDITA has issued notices to nine rooftop restaurants in Sector V. BMC is carrying out checks in Salt Lake and Rajarhat-Gopalpur and will submit a report to Bidhannagar Police for them to take action.
