  • Kolkata: Eastern Railway is set to introduce a special badge containing a hidden code for ticket examiners this month. The move aims to clamp down on the racket of fake TTEs operating in the division, which is split into two major sections — Sealdah Main/North and Sealdah South.According to railway sources, these unique identification badges will be given to about 345 TTEs in Sealdah this month.Rajeev Saxena, divisional railway manager (DRM) of Sealdah, told TOI: "In the past, several people impersonating railway TTEs landed in the police net. To curb the threat, we decided to roll out the badges that will have a unique code and three-digit number for identification. Any fake TTE can easily be ascertained by railway officials at stations or on board trains.""We came up with the idea of the badge with a unique code that will only be known to the authorised railway personnel. The genuine TTEs can be distinguished easily from imposters with the help of the badges," said Jasram Meena, senior divisional commercial manager of Sealdah. As per plans, each TTE, while reporting for duty, will have to wear the badge. "This measure will not only deter potential fraudsters but also enhance the confidence of passengers in interacting with railway staff. We believe the badge will help us mitigate the risks associated with fake TTEs, ensuring that ticket checking is carried out by authorised personnel only. We are taking the help of modern technology to thwart fraudulent activities in the division," said Meena.
