123456 Rishra: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday called Rajani Shaw, the wife of the BSF jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw, who is currently in the custody of Pakistan Rangers. The chief minister's call came after Rajani expressed her willingness to meet Banerjee to seek her help in getting her husband released from custody. Rajani has been running from pillar to post to get updates on her husband.On Sunday, Banerjee inquired about the health of the pregnant woman and assured her of any medical help she or her family might require.When Shaw informed her that she was yet to receive any update on her husband, Banerjee assured her that she would intervene. Banerjee called her again after a while and said she spoke with the BSF and hoped to get an update soon.Earlier in the day, Rajani said she wanted to meet the chief minister and seek her help. "I want to meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee even for 10 minutes. She is the chief minister and a powerful leader, so her intervention will help in expediting the matter," she said.Shaw, who went to Pathankot to meet the BSF officials, said that nothing came of her prayers. "They assured me, but there is nothing new in their response," she added. Rajani said she is hopeful that her husband could be brought back through a possible swap with a Pakistani Ranger who was apprehended by Indian forces in Rajasthan on May 3. She hoped that Banerjee's involvement could expedite the process.Purnam Shaw, who was posted in Punjab's Ferozepur sector, crossed the international border on April 23 and was subsequently taken into custody by Pakistan Rangers. "I spoke with the DG BSF in detail. There is a ceasefire between the two countries, and the two nations have entered into a settlement. Purnam Shaw should be brought back to India. The situation has changed now, and there is no reason why he should be held back in Pakistan," said Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MPKalyan Banerjee.Bijaysagar Mishra, chairman of the Rishra Municipality, met Rajani on Sunday evening and offered help. "I will visit your home every day if you need. I will also try to get a job for any family member," he said.
