• Govt asks dists to keep 3-mnth stock of essentials, meds

  • Kolkata: The Bengal govt asked all district administrations to maintain a three-month stock of food items and medicines, which can be distributed through the public distribution system(PDS). Bengal chief secretary Manoj Pant chaired a meeting on Sunday with senior officials, including DGP Rajeev Kumar, departmental secretaries, DMs, CPs, and SPs, to be extra cautious about the law-and-order situation.Particular attention was given to keeping a close vigil on border districts, as the Centre has already alerted states on security issues. On Saturday night, Union home secretary Govind Mohan held a virtual conference with chief secretaries of states. Following this, Pant communicated the plan to maintain stocks of food grains and medicines for three months. All districts were advised to keepdisaster management teams ready.Ration supplies for the next three months until Aug were directed to be sent in advance to each district to prevent any food shortage.Volunteers associated with civil defence will also receive special training. State health secretary NS Nigam also discussed with officials number of hospital beds available in each district during emergencies, number of ambulances and other related issues.
