Kolkata college student lodges FIR after cat goes missing from pet centre

Kolkata: A 21-year-old college student, Debapriya Ghosh, lodged a complaint at Narendrapur Police Station on May 5, stating that Minnie, her 10-month-old female cat, went missing from a private pet clinic in Mukundapur.Ignoring the scorching summer heat, Ghosh, a Santoshpur resident, has been frantically searching for Minnie since last Monday in the Mukundapur.The cat was sent for neutering at a pet centre in Nayabad's Atghara on April 29 and allegedly fled. The complaint was made based on the Ghosh family's report to Narendrapur PS on May 5.A case has been lodged under the prevention of cruelty to animals and breach of trust acts. Ghosh, who is a second-year English (Hons) student at Bhowanipur Education Society College, said, "We came to know that my Minnie had been missing since May 5 when we made a sudden visit to the centre. Our several requests to see her over a video call were purposely rejected by the pet centre," added Ghosh, who has six more cats at home. "The pet clinic returned Rs 3,300 that they charged as an advance after the cops' intervention," said Biswajit Ghosh, Debapriya's father. A cash reward of Rs 2,000 has also been declared for anyone who would give information about the pet.
