Services hit as Sealdah-bound train derails at Dum Dum station

12 Kolkata: A Sealdah-bound Bongaon local train derailed at Dum Dum Junction on Wednesday afternoon, disrupting suburban train services for over an hour. Eastern Railwayauthorities confirmed that no one was injured. Normal services resumed around 1.40 pm.No casualties were reported as the train had derailed just before entering the station. Several down trains were forced to halt before reaching Dum Dum, leading to a ripple effect on the suburban rail network."Just before entering platform no 4 at Dum Dum Junction, we felt a jolt. Two wheels of the moving train came off the tracks. The train came to an abrupt halt, and some passengers jumped onto the tracks. Railway police arrived soon and evacuated the passengers safely," said Amal Dhar, a commuter of the derailed train.Senior railway officials, including Sealdah Divisional Railway manager Rajeev Saxena, reached the spot and supervised the re-railing work. They also interacted with commuters to reassure them. Evacuated passengers were shifted to other down trains to continue their journey to Sealdah.
