Tehatta(Nadia): Tapas Saha, Trinamool Congress MLA from Nadia's Tehatta, passed away on Thursday morning following a brief illness. He was 66. Saha, who suffered a brain haemorrhage on Tuesday, was under treatment at a private hospital in Kolkata.A two-time MLA, Saha represented Palashipara constituency in 2016 and won from Tehatta in 2021. His political journey with TMC saw ups and downs, including a brief suspension in 2011 when he contested as an independent candidate against the party's official nominee. Saha was recently in the news for his alleged involvement in the Bengal recruitment scam.Chief minister Mamata Banerjee wrote on X that Saha's death was "an irreparable loss to the politics of the district and Bengal". TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, along with other party MLAs, attended his last rites and paid floral tributes.Saha's death marks the second vacancy in the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency this year, after the demise of Kaliaganj MLA Nasiruddin Ahmed on Feb 2. Political observers anticipate by-elections for both seats soon.
