  • 123456 Kolkata: In a remarkable display of resilience and determination, some students from prestigious schools in Kolkata achieved outstanding results despite facing severe health challenges.In 2023, Samanwaya Daw, a student of humanities at DPS Joka, was diagnosed with Stage 5 chronic kidney disease. The news was overwhelming, but he refused to let the diagnosis define him. His battle started then as he went for dialysis twice a week. The frequency increased to thrice a week by June 2023. He failed to appear for the CBSE Class XII last year due to health issues. With dialysis sessions structured around his exams and constant support from teachers, doctors, and friends, he stayed focused."I had a goal to score above 90% and I held onto that vision every single day," he said.Oushnik Roy from Lakshmipat Singhania Academy achieved 85.9% in the CBSE class XII examination from the science stream despite living with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita since childhood. After a major operation in January 2024, he was bedridden for months. Despite this, he remained focused on his academics. "My school shared class links and cleared my doubts regularly. My parents and grandmother," he said.Krity Upadhyay, also from Lakshmipat Singhania, dealt with a critical skin condition that required surgery and left her bedridden for weeks. She scored 90.6% in CLass XII Humanities. "I felt completely isolated and disconnected from normal life," she recalled. "But looking back, even though my journey was different, it was worth it," she said.Mithesh Bhathar, a student of DPS Rudy Park, scored 74.8% in the CBSE class X examination, living with acute OCD and partial hearing impairment. "With emotional steadiness and a strong bond, we've created a nurturing space for him to grow. The school's support has been vital, and we're truly proud of how far he's come," said Raja Bhathar, his father.
