A yellow alert has been issued for the districts of Alipurduar, Coochbehar, Darjeeling, Uttar Dinajpur, and Jalpaiguri.
The alerted districts are expected to witness light to moderate thunderstorm activity and lightning, accompanied by light to moderate rainfall. Gusty winds blowing at speeds between 30 to 40 kmph are also likely to prevail in these areas. The IMD has noted the possibility of lightning strikes across the yellow-alerted districts and advised residents to take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
Kolkata is also expected to experience thunderstorm activity on May 16, particularly during the afternoon or evening hours. The city is likely to witness light to moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds.
With the sky expected to remain partly cloudy throughout the day. The maximum temperature in Kolkata is projected to range between 35 and 35.8 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to remain between 26 and 27.8 degrees Celsius.
Relative humidity levels are anticipated to be high, with a maximum of around 85% and a minimum of 58%. The city is expected to receive approximately 0.5 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period commencing at 6:30 am on May 16.
