  • 12 Kolkata: Police recovered a partially charred body of an unidentified middle-aged person from a newly-constructed building in Bagbazar's Nivedita Lane in north Kolkata on Saturday.The property is awaiting occupancy It is often visited by workers and staff entrusted with maintenance task.Prima facie, the body appears to be that of a male. Cops are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain whether it is a murder or a case of suicide. Local residents spotted smoke emanating from the premises of a four-storey building around 8:15am and alerted the Shyampukur Police Station. Upon arrival, cops discovered the body, caught in flames and extinguished it. "The lower portion of the body was completely charred, while the upper part sustained partial burns," cops said.The Lalbazar Scientific Wing team collected forensic evidence from the spot.The building's caretaker, who claimed to have locked the main gate and left for home at night, was surprised as to how someone could scale the 6-ft boundary wall.
