Teachers' protest at Bikash Bhavan KOLKATA: A resident of Bidhannagar filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on Monday, claiming inconvenience caused due to the ongoing teachers’ protest at Bikash Bhavan against the job loss of around 25,752 teachers. The petitioner's counsel mentioned the matter before the division bench of Justice Soumen Sen for urgent hearing stating that people are having trouble commuting in front of the education department headquarters as the protest is blocking a significant portion of the road. They also claimed that tightened security in the area is causing them inconvenience.Justice Sen, while refusing an urgent hearing, stated that if the matter pertained to excessive police activities then it can be filed before the single bench having the determination. “This can never be a public interest case. Most public interest cases are for publicity; there is no public interest there,” the judge remarked. But he allowed the case to be filed, though refused to hear it urgently. The petitioner sought for specific guidelines and designate a particular area for the protest so that the road can be cleared.
