  • Kolkata: The Kolkata traffic police have banned all large vehicular movement on Santosh Roy Road, which connects Behala's Sakherbazar from Diamond Harbour Road to Motilal Gupta Road, to facilitate the laying of sewage pipes for the next three months. The road serves as a major link between Barisha and Behala, and Tollygunge Metro.According to cops and Kolkata Municipal Corporation, the laying of the sewerage pipeline will take place at four locations along ML Gupta Road: one at the junction of Bhuban Mohan Roy Road, two at the junction of Sodepur First Lane and Sodepur Brickfield Road, three at the junction of Hemchandra Mukherjee Road, and four at the junction of Kalipada Mukherjee Road near Nilkanta Marriage Hall. With the road now shut, buses like S-31, AC-31, 21, and the Sarada Park-Anandapur minibus, intending to reach Sakherbazar crossing on Diamond Harbour Road from Muchipara crossing, will use Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road (westbound)–Chowrasta/James Long Sarani crossing–Biren Roy Road (East) towards D H Road – left turn from Chowrasta on D H Road southbound– Sakherbazar crossing.Buses intending to reach Muchipara crossing (Karunamoyee Bridge) from Sakherbazar crossing will use D H Road–right/left turn to proceed through Santosh Roy Road– take a left turn from Sakherbazar/James Long Sarani crossing–James Long Sarani (northbound)–take a right turn from James Long Sarani/Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road crossing (towards east)– Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road (eastbound)–Muchipara crossing.Police suggested an alternate route to try and avoid Chowrasta. For smaller vehicles that intend to reach Sakherbazar crossing on D H Road from Muchipara crossing, they will use Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road (westbound)– James Long Sarani crossing. They can then take a left turn along James Long Sarani (southbound) and then take a right turn from James Long Sarani/Janakalyan crossing (westbound) onto D H Road. The police said that with just one road now operational to Tollygunge, they will not allow illegal parking.
