Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will start dispatching notices to three rooftop restaurantsfrom Tuesday for conducting hearings for these establishments that had sought legal intervention against the order of demolition. The hearings will start around the end of this week.KMC officials said they were also ready to hold additional hearings for the other venues that had been served notices earlier.A KMC source on Monday said a committee comprising senior civic officials and officials from fire services department, Excise department, and Kolkata Police would conduct the hearings for the three rooftop establishments — Scrapyard, Romaania, and Drunken Teddy — on three different days. An additional commissioner, who heads the committee, will monitor the hearings.Civic officials also said they favoured a more comprehensive hearing involving all relevant parties. On-site verification will be conducted if necessary. However, the focus of the hearings will be on whether the owners of these establishments obtained necessary permission from KMC for the construction of the rooftop facilities and whether there are adequate fire-safety measures at these restaurants. The Calcutta High Court on May 6 gave KMC two weeks to reverify relevant documents of the three rooftop restaurants.
