Kolkata: In a crackdown against illegal taxi touts and unauthorised bike taxi operators, Bidhannagar City Police arrested nine persons outside Kolkata airport last weekend. Cops said the operation was carried out after passengers reported that several touts approached them outside the new terminal arrival area, demanding inflated fares and issuing threats."Some drivers asked them about their destination and offered them a ride at a high rate, and allegedly threatening them with injury. Our officers kept watch and identified some taxi drivers who demanded a much higher amount than the normal fare," an officer said."When the passengers refused to pay the huge amount, the drivers reportedly said if they refused to avail of the service, the drivers would harm them. Our officers then arrested most of those drivers," an officer said. The accused include Biki Shaw (27), Jayanta Saha (42), Suraj Das (41), Amar Naskar (45), Biplab Adhikary (38), Samsuddin Molla (42), Chanchal Naskar (50), Dipak Ghosh (36), and Raju Saha (43).
