123 Kolkata: In the absence of rain, the minimum temperature in the city rose on Tuesday, while it continued to remain below the normal mark. The Met office expects thundershower activities in the city between Wednesday and Friday, which will prevent the mercury from rising abruptly. The minimum temperature, which remained below the normal mark in the past two days, rose from 26.4 degrees to 28.7 degrees on Tuesday. Around 26 mm of rain between Saturday and Sunday dragged both the maximum and minimum temperatures down below the normal mark before the minimum temperature started to rise."There are still chances of scattered light rain and cloudiness in Kolkata in the next few days. The southerly wind is injecting moisture at the lower level, and hence we can expect some light and scattered rain spells in the next two to three days," said Met scientist HR Biswas, head of the Weather Forecast Section at Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata.According to a special bulletin from IMD, at present, there is an east-west trough that runs from cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan to north Bangladesh across north Rajasthan, south Haryana, south Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, along with an upper air cyclonic circulation over north Bangladesh and its neighbourhood."Along with a favourable wind pattern and moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal, these conditions are expected to bring enhanced thunderstorms with gusty winds accompanied by heavy rainfall activity likely over some districts of West Bengal," said the bulletin.Even as Kolkata remained mainly dry on Tuesday, many western districts in Bengal experienced spells of light to moderate rain.
