1234 Kolkata: State education minister Bratya Basu on Tuesday hinted that the centralised admission portal (CAP) will go live earlier than last year. While private and minority colleges have opened their UG admission portals, state-aided colleges and varsities are still waiting for the centralised portal to become operational.Basu said, "We are not at all late. The process is underway, and within seven days everything will be completed to start the centralised portal." Last year, the portal opened on June 19.The admission process was stalled due to the OBC reservation-related dispute, which has already been resolved, and the amended rule will be placed before state assembly soon. Officials of higher education department said the centralised portal was ready to function. The department is waiting for the final nod to begin the process. Principals of state-aided colleges said late start of the portal left several seats vacant last year even after admission was over. This time, many of them are fearing the same. Department officials, though, said there was nothing to worry.
