  • Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Anubrata Mondal on Thursday appeared before the police in Bolpur, seven days after being summoned in connection with a case related to the alleged use of derogatory and abusive language during a telephonic conversation with Bolpur police station inspector in charge (IC), Litan Halder.

Mondal arrived at the SDPO office around 3:15 PM and stayed for about 2 hours. He avoided the main entrance/exit and refrained from making any statements to media persons, while leaving the police station and proceeded directly to the party office in Bolpur.

“I will see for two days first! Then I will tell you all what I want to say,” Mondal said after leaving the office premises and heading towards his residence.

According to police sources, Mondal’s mobile phone has been seized.

Additionally, two phones belonging to IC Liton Halder were also inspected by police as part of the investigation.

The Birbhum District Police is also investigating how the audio recording of the conversation between Mondal and IC Halder was leaked.

A case was filed after a purported four-minute audio clip surfaced last month, allegedly featuring Mondal abusing and threatening IC Halder and his family.

The summons was issued and Mondal skipped the police summons for a week, citing health issues. His legal representatives appeared on his behalf, submitting a medical report.

The TMC had condemned the “derogatory and abusive” language allegedly used by Mondal and demanded that the former Birbhum district president issue an unconditional apology. It warned that failure to comply would result in disciplinary action, including show-cause proceedings.

Following this, Mondal subsequently issued a written “unconditional apology,” while also alleging a conspiracy.
