Kolkata: The Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation has started conducting a structural health test of the 425-metre New Town flyover over Biswa Bangla Sarani. Traffic cops said the flyover will undergo various tests every weekend for 20 days, after which the authorities will decide on taking corrective action if necessary.Currently, work has started on the Sector V-bound flank of the flyover. Barricades have been put up and motorists have been asked to move slowly. "The flyover flanks would not be completely shut as it would trigger traffic congestion. Work will be done by closing only one lane of one specific flank of the flyover on each weekend from Friday midnight till Sunday evening when the rush of traffic is low," said an officer. Officials, however, said that all vehicles would be diverted through the main arterial road stretch moving below the flyover if the need arises to fully shut one flank of the flyover. The test of the entire flyover is expected to be completed in next two months, an official said.
