  • Kolkata: A privilege motion submitted by TMC legislators against leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari was tabled in the state assembly on Wednesday and forwarded to the privilege committee. This was after Adhikari allegedly made "defamatory and untrue" comments against CM Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, BJP MLAs walked out of the assembly over "police inaction" in the case of TMC strongman Anubrata Mondal.

TMC MLAs Chandrima Bhattacharya, Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, Aroop Biswas, Indranil Sen, Firhad Hakim, and Nirmal Ghosh moved the motion against Adhikari's comments made outside the assembly on Tuesday. Adhikari had said the CM "sung praises for Pakistan, and with eloquence more than the country's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

"Shankar Ghosh, chief whip of BJP, said, "The way the chief minister attacked MLA Agnimitra Paul inside the house on Tuesday is unacceptable. She also claimed that the Pahalgam incident was manufactured keeping the election in mind. This is nothing but a narrative in favour of Pakistan. If the House is unwilling to discuss her statements, how can it take Suvendu Adhikari's comment made outside the assembly into cognizance.

"Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya said, "The chief minister has never spoken in favour of Pakistan. The opposition did not, for once, complain about anything inside the House. The CM raised a question about the diplomatic failure to stop Pakistan from getting the vice-chairmanship of the United Nations Counter Terrorism Committee. The leader of the opposition, surprisingly, claimed that she spoke in favour of Pakistan. He spoke lies about the CM's statement, and the privilege motion was moved for that.
