12 Uttarpara: A woman and her four-year-old daughter were found dead— smeared in blood from knife injuries— at their rented accommodation at Bhadrakali area in Hind Motor on Wednesday morning. Beside Payel Chatterjee (24) and daughter Adrita (4) was Payel's husband, Kashinath Chatterjee (43), who was found in a critical condition. He was admitted to MCH.Police said preliminary investigation indicated that Kashinath had murdered his wife and daughter with a knife and then tried to kill himself. He suffered knife wounds in his neck and stomach but survived the attempt.Kashinath, who worked in a factory in Liluah that manufactured aluminium utensils, had daily squabbles with his wife. Neighbours said he suspected his wife of being unfaithful to him. Debarati Roy, the landlady of the rented place where the Chatterjees lived, said the marital discord was public knowledge.On hearing shrieks on Wednesday, Roy had rushed to check on her tenants. What she found was horrifying: Payel and Adrita were lying still on the bed, drenched in blood and Kashinath was thrashing about as blood oozed out of his wounds, said police. Roy rushed out and alerted the neighbours, who then called the police.
