Kolkata: A woman from Kolaghat, East Midnapore, filed a police complaint against her former husband for allegedly stealing and forging a cheque to embezzle Rs 20 lakh from her bank account, police said on Wednesday.The complaint, filed at Shakespeare Sarani police station on Wednesday, accused the ex-husband, a resident of Taltala in central Kolkata, of stealing a cheque from the complainant's cheque book and forging her signature to transfer the funds to his account.According to police sources, the alleged fraud was discovered approximately 18 months after the couple's divorce was finalised. They got married in 2011 and have one child together."The complainant alleges that her ex-husband fraudulently transferred Rs 20 lakh to his account without her knowledge or consent," said a senior police officer. "We are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the bank to verify if the accused was present during the transaction."The woman has also raised concerns about the bank's failure to notify her about the transaction, which exceeded Rs 500,000. The private bank branch is located in the Shakespeare Sarani area.The bank officials were unavailable for comment at the time of reporting. tnn
