12 Kaliganj (Nadia): Three more persons were arrested on Tuesday for hurling a bomb that killed 9-year-old Tamanna Khatun during a Trinamool Congress victory procession in Molandi village a day earlier. Police said the four arrested so far were Adar Sk, Manowar Sk, Kalu Sk and Anwar Sk. Tamanna's family, who have named 28 people in their FIR, have demanded a CBI probe. The child's remains were taken back home after a postmortem and her last rites conducted at a local burial ground. Hundreds of people, including local CPM netas, were in attendance. Father Hossain Sheikh, who works in Odisha and returned home last night, demanded a CBI investigation. "I have no faith in the police. We will fight for justice. The truth must be revealed," he said.
Tamanna's mother Sabina Yasmin, who was with the child when she was hit by the bomb, alleged that their house was targeted because of their political affiliations with CPM. "My daughter was deliberately murdered," she said. Krishnanagar police, in a statement, only said: "In the incident of explosion at Molandi, Borochandghar under Kaliganj police station area, which led to the death of a minor girl, four prime accused persons were arrested. . . Investigation and legal proceedings are underway. "Locals said political violence was not new to the village. Conflict between the Left and Congress began in the 1990s. After 2011, clashes between Trinamool and CPM intensified. A Trinamool neta and police were injured in bombings in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh told reporters: "The culprits should be given exemplary punishment. Four persons have already been arrested. Police will track down all of them. Whatever has happened is condemnable. "He added: "At the same time, we are not here to listen to lectures from the opposition. BJP should look at the law and order situation in states governed by them. CPM should explain the spate of murders during their tenure. In this case, the CM herself has asked for the strongest possible action against the perpetrators. "Speaking to ANI, Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar accused Trinamool workers of "hurling bombs" at CPM supporters during victory celebrations. "We have been saying there is no democracy left here. They (TMC) have finished off democracy, and that is why such incidents are taking place again and again," he said. At a Congress protest, state party president Subhankar Sarkar called the death a "blot on the history of Bengal elections". "Bypolls were held throughout the country, but we saw no bloodshed anywhere else," he said. NCW member Archana Majumdar said the commission had taken suo motu cognizance of the incident and asked police to submit a report within two days.
