Kolkata: The Kalighat Police recovered a stolen gold chain and apprehended the accused, Bikram Patel, within 24 hours of the crime being reported near Hazra Crossing in south Kolkata. Patel, alias Sintu, a resident of Grove Lane in the Tollygunge area, snatched a 15-gram gold chain from the victim, Shampa Mitra (55), in front of CNCI Hospital on Ashutosh Mukherjee Road and fled from the scene. Patel confessed to selling the stolen chain to a goldsmith at Surya Kumar Chatterjee Street. Patel falsely said the chain belonged to his wife and cited financial difficulties as the reason for the sale. tnn
