  • Digha: Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee arrived in Digha on Wednesday afternoon, two days ahead of Rath Yatra, to participate in the town's inaugural chariot festival. The countdown for the yatra began on Wednesday, and enthusiasm among the masses was significant as they tried to catch a glimpse of the CM, who mingled with the crowd.Banerjee later wrote on Facebook, "It is a matter of immense pride that Jagannath Dham in Digha, the sacred abode of Lord Jagannath, has already begun to bring joy to countless devotees, while simultaneously revitalising the local economy and transforming Digha into a year-round destination for pilgrims and tourists alike.""As we prepare for the first-ever Rath Yatra to be held on the shores of Digha, the anticipation among the people is truly palpable. I have personally arrived here in advance to oversee the final arrangements and to ensure that every aspect, be it security, crowd management, or emergency preparedness, is in place to make this a safe, smooth, and soul-stirring experience for all. Our state administration has worked tirelessly to ensure that this celebration reflects the dignity and grandeur that befits the Lord of the Universe," she added. You Can Also Check: Kolkata AQI | Weather in Kolkata | Bank Holidays in Kolkata | Public Holidays in Kolkata"Bengal is the land of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Ramakrishna Paramahansa, Maa Sarada, Swami Vivekananda, and so many others. Ours is a land that believes in compassion, inclusivity, and the unity of all beings. With Lord Jagannath's blessings, we shall continue to move forward, towards progress, peace, and prosperity for all," Banerjee said. The CM chose to get off her motorcade and walk; she shook hands with students and women standing by the roadside. Many took selfies to capture the moment. Banerjee stopped her car at Contai central bus stand, which is, incidentally, a stone's throw from the residence of Bengal leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari. The excitement in the crowd was palpable as the CM greeted them. She then proceeded to Digha, stopping at Ramnagar, where MLA Akhil Giri greeted her.The initial plan was for Banerjee to fly to Digha from Dumurjala, as she had done on April 30 to inaugurate the Jagannath temple, and a chopper was kept ready. However, heavy rain in the morning led to the decision to travel by car. She made several stops, including Kolaghat, Nandakumar, Heria, Radhamani and Chandipur. The CM also made a surprise visit to Marishda police station, which is located by the roadside, and appreciated the cleanliness.Upon reaching Digha, she held a meeting with officials to check preparations for the Rath Yatra. Barricades were placed on the roads to keep the crowd at a safe distance and ensure the CM's safety.
