Several districts in South Bengal are likely to see light to moderate rainfall daily until at least June 28, with isolated heavy showers possible across parts of Bankura, Purulia, Purba Bardhaman, and Nadia.

This is because of a cyclonic circulation hovering over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal, which is expected to develop into a low-pressure system within the next day, the IMD said on Wednesday.

As of 1:35 pm Wednesday, the IMD issued a yellow alert for the next three hours in Purba Bardhaman, Nadia, Bankura, and Purulia, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph. The weather office urged residents in affected areas to stay indoors during storm activity.

Meanwhile, heavier rainfall is expected to shift northward later in the week. From June 27 to 30, North Bengal districts such as Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar may see isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall due to increasing moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal. With the upper air system tilting southwestward, the IMD noted that conditions are favourable for continued unstable weather conditions across much of the state.
