  • Kolkata: Fresh security concerns emerged after a drone equipped with multiple high-resolution cameras crashed into a pond near the India-Bangladesh border at Hingalganj on Wednesday night. The incident triggered panic among locals and prompted a joint investigation by cops and BSF. According to cops, residents of Bankura Gazi Para spotted the drone falling from the sky into a local pond around 10.50 pm. Locals alerted cops, following which, police and BSF personnel recovered the drone using nets.

Preliminary investigations revealed the drone was fitted with five high-resolution surveillance cameras, raising suspicions of espionage given the area's sensitive location near the border. "The drone has been sent to a forensic laboratory for detailed examination," Basirhat SP Hossain Mehdi Rehman told TOI.

A BSF official confirmed that investigators are exploring whether the drone was operated from across the border"We were about to go to sleep after dinner when we heard a noise and saw a drone crash into the pond. We had never seen anything like it before," said Fatima Bibi, a resident of Bankura Gazi Para. "It hovered over the pond before falling in, and we panicked and alerted cops," said Kashem Mistri, another local.
