  • Kolkata: Two incidents of jewellery theft were reported in Kolkata, prompting police investigations into what appears to be a growing pattern of household crimes. In the first incident, reported at Survey Park PS, Anubha Sharma (56) from Udita Complex filed a complaint against her help for allegedly stealing jewellery from her apartment between 5. 45 pm on June 20 and 8. 15 am on June 21. According to the police report, the stolen items included a gold necklace and matching earrings weighing approximately 50 g, a green stone weighing 50 g, multiple gold earrings, and other ornaments. The accused, who resides in Howrah's Bagnan, is currently being sought by authorities. In another case, reported from Phoolbagan, a caregiver was accused of stealing jewellery, including a pair of gold bangles, from a residence on Suren Sarkar Road between 11. 00 pm on June 14 and 3. 00 pm on June 16.

The deputy commissioner of police (eastern division) said, "We are investigating both cases and have formed teams to track down the accused. We advise residents to conduct proper background checks before hiring domestic help and to maintain detailed records of their valuable possessions. "The police are examining CCTV footage from both locations. Local authorities have also issued advisory guidelines for residents. These incidents have raised concerns about security measures in residential complexes and the need for more stringent background verification for domestic workers.
