Kolkata: A woman (38) from Baisanabghata lost Rs 10 lakh to a matrimonial fraud. The woman lodged a complaint at the Patuli PS on Monday, saying the accused, posing as a 27-year-old businessman from Bijoygarh, contacted her on a matrimonial platform eight months ago. Police said the man misrepresented his age, income and business credentials. "The accused, over the period, coaxed the woman into giving him Rs 10,32,500 for various reasons, like business expenses, monthly expenditure and house rent. The woman paid, believing they would eventually marry," said a police officer. The fraud came to light when the woman discovered discrepancies in his claims.
