Kolkata: The parents of a class VII student from a popular central Kolkata school cried foul play after she was found in a bloodied state outside her four-storey flat at Bichitra Abasan in Salt Lake on Sunday night and succumbed to her injuries later.
Residents of the housing complex at Salt Lake BC Block heard a thud and found Adrija Sen (13) in a pool of blood around 8.40 pm on Sunday. Police initially started a case of unnatural death but later converted it into a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder after her parents lodged a foul play complaint.
Police said the girl's shoe was found on the terrace of the residence, indicating she went there. Cops also found a note at her home with "I hate people" and "I want to die" written there.
However, the girl's father, Subrata Sen, said she showed no signs of distress and stressed she could not have taken her own life. "She was a happy child. She was a great swimmer and an avid martial arts student. She was also very good in studies and never showed any signs of depression. On Sunday, I gave her some snacks to eat and left home around 8.30 pm to buy some school stationery from AB AC market. I was back in 10 minutes, and by then, I found her lying in a pool of blood on the road outside our building," said Sen, a retired school inspector.
Sen said he believes someone entered their home when he left. "Someone must have seen me leaving the home wearing pyjamas and somehow took her outside our home. I don't know how she fell down," said Sen.
Cops said they are awaiting the post-mortem report.
