  • Krishnaganj: A suspected Bangladeshi smuggler was shot dead by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel along the India-Bangladesh border in Nadia district on Tuesday. The incident occurred near the Gede Halderpara Border Outpost (BOP) under the jurisdiction of the 32nd Battalion.

BSF sources said that four to five individuals attempted to cross the international border around midnight. When challenged by patrolling troops, the group allegedly opened fire on them. In retaliation, the BSF fired back, critically injuring one person. Although he was rushed to a nearby hospital, the man was declared brought dead. The identity of the deceased is yet to be confirmed. Several others from the group are believed to have sustained injuries but managed to retreat into Bangladesh. An FIR has been lodged.

The BSF said that it has repeatedly raised concerns about infiltration and attacks by Bangladeshi smugglers with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). However, little action has been taken by BGB to stop the infiltration attempts, sources said.
