  • Kolkata: Parents of the first-year law student, who was allegedly raped at her college last week, don't want a CBI probe as of now. They want to keep their faith in the trial court proceedings, one of the lawyers said, stating that they would also be moving the Calcutta High Court.

Several public interest litigations have been filed before the division bench of Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Smita Das De, seeking a probe by a different investigating agency. Both matters are likely to be heard on Thursday. Lawyers indicated that the parents might also plead to be a party to these PILs.

Advocates Souma Subhra Ray and Vijay Kumar Singhal have filed the PILs. Singhal, in his petition, demanded, "Due to the close proximity of the accused persons with the ruling political party, until and unless the investigation is transferred to CBI and/or it's a court-monitored investigation, the accused shall go scot-free and the evidence shall be tampered with.

" Ray, in his petition, stated that the incident at the law college was not a "spontaneous crime of opportunity" but "a premeditated and politically motivated plan". These two advocates had also filed petitions after the RG Kar hospital rape-and-murder case.

Multiple letters have also been sent to the Chief Justice to take suo motu cognisance of the incident and order a court-monitored probe. However, according to the survivor's family lawyer, they do not want any CBI probe as of now and want the hearing to proceed at the trial court.
