Kolkata: The Entally Police has initiated an investigation into a case of mobile phone theft and subsequent unauthorised bank transactions via UPI leading to a loss of over Rs 63,000 after a complaint was filed by a Bihar resident on Wednesday. The complainant, Urmila Devi of Korut village in Nalanda, Bihar alleged an unidentified person stole her son's mobile phone near Sealdah bus stand on June 6, soon after they arrived Sealdah Station from Gaya in a train. Cops said the victim had saved her banking details in the stolen phone.
The fraudulent transactions were made between June 7 and 8, the complainant alleged.
The police have begun analysing CCTV footage from the Sealdah bus stand and surrounding areas to identify potential suspects. Cops are also coordinating with the bank's fraud investigation cell to gather details of the transaction records and determine the exact sequence of events.
