  • Kolkata: A complaint has been filed against BJP leader and lawyer Kaustav Bagchi at Mohanpur police station for allegedly creating a ruckus at a private hospital in Barrackpore. Police have summoned Bagchi to the police station at 11 am on Friday.

On Thursday, a four-member team from the Progressive Health Association's North 24 Parganas unit visited the hospital. Bibartan Saha, one of the representatives, said: "The hospital made every possible effort to treat the patient. But someone who was not even involved in the treatment issued threats and intimidated doctors.

" The incident pertains to the death of the father of a BJP worker from Barrackpore. The 65-year-old man died shortly after admission. Bagchi arrived at the hospital later that night and allegedly threatened the doctors. The BJP leader and the deceased's family claimed the hospital was more focused on negotiating the admission package cost rather than providing treatment. Denying all allegations, hospital managing director Biswajit Ray said: "If the family had filed a complaint, a post-mortem could have determined if oxygen deprivation caused the death.

    "

Bagchi said, "I know how to deal with these legally. I haven't yet decided whether I will appear.

" Barrackpore MP Partha Bhowmik said: "The hospital had asked the family to sign a bond before performing an angiogram. In trying to negotiate, they delayed, and the patient died of heart failure. The family didn't raise any objection.
