  • Kolkata: The authorities of the law college in Kasba, south Kolkata have requested cop deployment after the removal of barricades on Monday when the institute is scheduled to reopen after a closure of 12 days following the gang rape of a student on the campus. This comes even as a senior police officer has claimed that policemen will be continued to be deployed on the premises in three shifts. "Cops would check the students' ID cards. If anyone appears to be suspicious, the person will be questioned. We will seek help from Kasba Police Station for KP battalion deployment," the officer told TOI.

"From the initial day of police posting at the college, an inspector has been flanked by 14 cops. The same number of policemen will be posted on duty even after the college reopens," added the officer. On Saturday, the college issued a notice stating that it would comply with all directions given by the high court. Ahead of the reopening, the college authorities were coordinating for making necessary security arrangements. Earlier, they had notified that identity cards were a must for seeking entry into the college campus. On Monday, the college will start from 8 am and will continue till 2 pm. As per a notice, the college security guard will check the identity cards of everyone before allowing entry into the campus. " The college guard will leave after ensuring that the entire college building has been vacated and the main gate has been locked. LLM students will have classes from Tuesday," stated the notice.

Project submission by senior students will be held based on a roster prepared by the college. They won't be allowed on campus without valid reasons. None would be allowed to loiter around the union and guard rooms from Monday, cops said. On Saturday, cops continued to keep the college gate sealed and barricaded with guardrails.
